Procrastination level: HIGH.

What to do when I have an assignment due which isn’t even half completed…. Anything but the assignment.

I am the queen of procrastination. It makes me feel a lot better to know other students are also the same. Reading Courtney’s blog makes me feel a little justified knowing I’m not the only one who goes shopping or watches TV instead of doing assignments. In fact, even writing blogs has been a great procrastination tool as I can easily write one on 10 minutes and feel better at least crossing one task off my list even though it’s not a priority.

One day I got so deep in procrastination that I was looking on Pinterest for ways to stop  procrastinating. Procrastination level: Crazy… Should probably go do my assignment now.

Until next blog.

Still waiting…

Like Mr Clancy I am still waiting to hear about my prac placement. This will be my 4th prac and I am hoping to be placed in early primary because I haven’t yet had any experience with that age. My last 2 pracs were at All Hallows and I feel like I was so spoilt getting placed there. What an amazing school! So many resources, so much support and such amazingly well behaved students. One of the best things being there as a pre-service teacher was that the teachers all got 7 non-contact periods a week! This is achievable because they have specialist teachers for several subjects and a classroom teacher who just teaches core subjects. It meant that I had at least one period a day to plan.. either in a group planning lesson with other teachers or individually with my mentor teacher.

I can only hope to have such a positive experience with my next prac!

My study spaces.

After reading Courtney’s blog I thought I would too share some ideas about my study space. I am someone who is very organised and tidy so seeing the pictures of Courtney’s desk impressed me. Although my desk isn’t always completely tidy while I am studying as soon as I am done for the day I always put everything away and back in its place. Having a tidy work space allows me to have a clear mind when I begin my work. My desk also has a window right in front of it, giving me a great view of west end (and some things to look at when I can’t focus).

Although this is my study space where I sit when I am watching lectures and attending tutorials, I don’t pretend to be the prefect student. I also do some work with my laptop on my lap, while I am sitting on the couch with the TV on in the background…. Which is what I am doing right now as I write this blog.

Just submitted my assignment for EDX2190 so I can turn my full attention to assignment 2 for EDC3100 and have it ready for submission next week.

Until next blog.

Assignment 1 results/feedback.

I was glad to receive results for assignment 1 yesterday. I find when I go well in an assignment it can give me so much confidence and motivation to try that much harder with my other subjects. However, If I am not happy with assignment results I usually feel pretty ordinary and lose all motivation for Uni.

I was happy with my results for this assignment and think the marking was fair. I think the feedback they gave me was justified, however, it does make me wish I had have looked over my assignment one final time before submitting it and maybe I would have picked up on those things myself.

Receiving marks for assignments and going over the markers feedback reiterates how important it is for all teachers to give quality feedback to students and how much of an effect it can have on their learning.

Here is an interesting info graphic I found about the value of feedback.

Until next blog.

Apps for teachers.

While reading many articles and finding different sources throughout this course, It has occurred to me just how many resources there are out there for teachers looking to incorporate ICT into teaching and learning. As well as to transform learning, digital technologies can assist teachers in staying organised. While browsing a few of my friends pages on Pinterest I’ve found a few interesting lists of apps which I had never heard of before.

Thought I would share…

Apps for teachers

Apps for the paperless classroom

Apps for the 1 iPad classroom

Resources like these remind me that there are so many things out there for teachers, we just need to try out different options and see what works best for us in our classrooms.

Until next blog.

Week 8.

After writing a post last week saying I needed to get a bit more done on this assignment, I start this week of study having not looked at the assignment at all since last weeks blog post…. Whoops.

It has occurred to me that when I was first picking my constructing and transforming knowledge content descriptors, I picked ones that I felt were clearly fitting the required task of being constructing and transforming, not thinking about how I would incorporate ICT into the unit plan. I am now wondering if I should change the descriptors I chose, or just go with them and really challenge myself to find ways I can utilise ICTs to transform learning. Trying to work through this weeks learning path, I’m thinking I will have to revisit the moodle books again once I have progressed a bit more with the assignment.

Similar to Courtney, I am looking forward to receiving results for assignment 1 this week. I’m hoping my marks will give me some confidence for the rest of this course!

Week 8.

More assignments…

Like many other students I am trying to get past the first point of this assignment and actually take some steps getting me closer to completion. LLandry made an interesting point in their blog, noting how many different styles of unit plans we use throughout our degrees. Similar with lesson plans, each course seems to have their own design that they prefer you use, meaning we end up using different styles for each assignment. I guess it lets us learn a lot of different ways to present these plans and in the future when we are creating our own, we will know what works best for us.

I do not have set learning experiences for my unit plan yet, just basic ideas but I find that most of my ideas for ways to incorporate ICT into the classroom still seem to be replacing, not amplifying or transforming. I understand the difference and how it is important to use ICT to transform learning but struggle with ideas on how tho actually achieve this. I have been reading through a few things online to try and get some ideas flowing and found this article helpful.
